I was an incredibly persistent child, which I’m sure put my Dad through some trials during my upbringing. I remember a time in Grade 2 when my class had swimming lessons, and after just one lesson, I was completely hooked! I would come home every day, asking for more lessons, and when my Dad initially responded with a hesitant “maybe,” I took it as a challenge. I started asking him in the mornings and after school, relentless in my pursuit. I left notes in his jean pockets, extolling the wonders of swimming lessons. My persistence paid off, and my Dad finally gave in, and my journey began (thanks, Dad!).

And here I am today. Humanitarian by day, Lego fan by night, hard core nap expert all the time!   I also think people are AWESOME!  I have yet to meet one I haven’t learned something from.  I genuinely love what I do, working alongside our incredible volunteers at the Canadian Red Cross, who selflessly contribute their precious time and share their expertise. It’s the best job ever!

When I’m not at the Canadian Red Cross, you’ll find me immersed in Lego projects, biking, camping, or indulging my passion for woodworking. Lego has been a consistent source of fun, sparking my creativity, and enabling me to craft amazing things. Trains, castles, rollercoasters—whatever you can imagine, you can build. And, of course, it’s a ton of fun! It was Lego, along with my Dad, that sparked my interest in woodworking—a fantastic hobby that grants me moments of reflection and relaxation. I am at Disneyland (well that’s the dream anyway).  Bucket List item #1-visit every Disney Park on the planet.  2 parks left!

Then there’s this thing called “leadership”, and it intrigues me…the road to be someone who inspires and helps others to be the best they can be is something I want to keep investing time in.  There are so many different ways people lead, I haven’t landed on my favourite yet, and I doubt I will…too many things to try and to succeed or fail at! And I have definitely had my share of fails, which is all good…it makes me try something even more awesome the next time around.

After spending 31 years in aquatics and recreation, I find myself working for an extraordinary organization today. It’s a meaningful role, allowing me to be a part of the lifesaving work we do as a crucial piece of the puzzle.
